Stunning illustrations take the spotlight in ArtPostAsia Inc.’s latest book release, A Sketchbook of Philippine Garden Orchids. The book, written and illustrated by Patrick Andrew Gozon, highlights commonly cultivated species and other resilient Philippine ornamental orchids as a visual reference.
Patrick Andrew Gozon is an artist, architect, and devoted gardener who has sketched orchids, plants and trees that are indigenous to Philippine soil. In this publication, he gives fifty colorful illustrations of popular and notable orchid varieties recommended for use in tropical gardens and Philippine-inspired landscapes. The descriptions of these specimens were written by one with a passion for gardening, using simple botanic terms for easy understanding. The accompanying drawings attempt to capture these orchids’ beauty as subjects in art.
Patrick is a member of the Philippine Native Plant Conservation Society and the Philippine Horticultural Society. He received his master’s degree in Tropical Landscape Architecture from the University of the Philippines. He is currently an assistant professor in the same university, teaching in both the architecture and landscape architecture departments. A devoted gardener, he spends most of his spare time attending to his plant collection or writing about them in his blog www.pinoytrees.blogspot.com. He is an advocate of using Philippine native plants in landscape design and urban greening projects.
Sketchbook of Philippine Garden Orchids is published by ArtPostAsia Inc., a publishing and design group that produces beautifully photographed books with compelling narratives on Asian arts and culture, heritage, living traditions and contemporary aspects of lifestyle and design in and around Asia.
