A HERITAGE OF MAKI-E PENS: THE BRIGGS COLLECTION
A Heritage of Maki-e Pens: The Briggs Collection provides a historical survey and discussion of the Japanese lacquer pen. Through various materials, techniques, and motifs, the Collection highlights pieces that have marked Japanese lacquer art pen designs for over 85 years.
The Briggs Collection has for over 15 years been shaped by its founder’s growing appreciation of the challenges faced by the maki-e art form and to some extent, the imminent near-obsolescence of the writing pen. This book serves as a cultural resource that provides further understanding and scholarship for modern Japanese lacquer pens.
